We strongly recommend that before completing this course, participants first complete Introduction to Dementia Design Aotearoa

Dementia Design Aotearoa: Design Essentials has been developed to help carers and those working with older people create environments that better support people living with dementia (mate wareware).Participants will be introduced to the basics of dementia-supportive design — why the physical and sensory environment matters so much, and how small, thoughtful changes can reduce distress, support independence, and improve day-to-day wellbeing. In this masterclass the design essentials are outlined relating to the forms, colours, and flows of living environments.

Short course structure and topics covered:

Through short videos, real-life examples, and practical tips, participants will learn how changes to the environment — often simple and low-cost — can make a meaningful difference for the person you care for, and for you as a carer.

Through a blend of theory, case studies, and practical guidance, participants will learn how thoughtful design can make a real difference in people’s lives.
