Full course description
REDCap is a secure web application for setting up databases and surveys. It is user-friendly and used in over 150 countries.
In this course you will have the chance to both learn about REDCap and engage in facilitated small group practice sessions led by experts and incorporated throughout the course.

Short course structure and topics covered:
Part 1 – Creating Basic Forms
- Understand “Development”, “Test and stage” and “Production” instruments in REDcap
- Understand difference between forms and surveys in REDCap
- Set up a simple form, add variables and validate them, set user permissions
Part 2 – Extended Features
- Learn how to use branching logic, calculate age variables
- Use the action tags “maxchecked”, “character limit”, and “Hidden”
- Send email links to participants for survey completion
Learning outcomes:
Part 1
- Create a project
- Create instruments
- Populate an instrument with field(s)
Part 2
- Use branching logic to hide certain fields when they aren’t needed
- Use action tags to extend field behaviour
- Create calculated fields
- Learn how to designate an instrument as a survey
- Learn how to set up automated email invitations
Who should attend? / any entry requirements?
You should attend this course if you have not used REDCap before, want to learn from experts and would benefit from having the opportunity for hands-on practice.
You must be able to access the free version of REDCap. This is available to tertiary institutions (including anyone at Auckland University) with a UPI and not for profit organisations that have joined the Consortium. Please check with your institution that you can access REDCap for free before enrolling.
