At this stage, you are only registering your eligibility and preferred study option. Payment is NOT required now and will be arranged in August once your attendance type (in-person or online) has been confirmed.

To assist with venue planning, registrations for the in-person attendance option will close at 6:00pm (NZ Time) on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.

Please note that places for in-person attendance are limited. If the number of applications exceeds venue capacity, an allocation process will be undertaken after the closing date. All applicants will be advised of their confirmed attendance type (in-person or online) by Friday, 24 July 2026.

If you would like to attend in person but your study leave approval is still pending, we recommend applying for the in-person option. You will have the opportunity to change your attendance type or withdraw your registration up until the payment due date of 4 September 2026.

Overview

This FRACP Intensive Two Week Course is an intensive, exam-focused revision programme designed to support trainees preparing for the FRACP Part 1 Paediatrics Written Examination in 2027.

Delivered over 10.5 days, the course provides a comprehensive review of key topics across the paediatric curriculum, helping trainees consolidate knowledge, identify learning gaps, and focus their preparation in the final months before the examination. It is designed to complement individual study and clinical training by offering a structured, high-yield revision experience tailored to the FRACP written exam.

Delivered by an experienced multidisciplinary faculty—including specialist clinicians (general, community, and subspecialty) and scientists from Starship Children’s Hospital and other New Zealand hospitals—the course combines expert-led topic reviews with practical exam preparation strategies, clinical applications, and opportunities to revisit challenging concepts.

 

Participants benefit from an engaging and supportive learning environment, with opportunities to ask questions, clarify key concepts, and gain valuable insights from experienced educators and clinicians throughout the course.

 

Who should attend?

This  course is designed for basic paediatric trainees in New Zealand and Australia who are preparing for the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination in 2027.

Participants are expected to have foundational knowledge in paediatrics appropriate to their stage of training and to be actively preparing for the written examination. 

 

Short course structure and topics covered

The course is designed to provide an intensive and comprehensive review of key paediatric topics, helping trainees consolidate knowledge and focus their preparation for the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination.

Course structure includes:

  • 10.5 days of intensive teaching delivered over a two-week period
  • More than 60 expert-led lectures and review sessions covering core areas of the paediatric curriculum
  • A combination of clinical and medical sciences topics aligned with the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination
  • A hybrid delivery format, enabling participation either in person or online
  • One 50-question MCQ practice examination designed to simulate the written exam experience
  • Opportunities to revisit high-yield concepts, identify knowledge gaps, and strengthen exam technique
  • Access to lecture recordings via a dedicated teaching website, with access extended until the Divisional Clinical Examination in 2027

Topics covered:

The course provides comprehensive coverage of the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination curriculum, including both clinical and basic medical sciences topics. Teaching is focused on high-yield content, practical clinical application, and areas commonly encountered in the examination.

Learning outcomes: 

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Consolidate exam-focused knowledge: Review and strengthen understanding of high-yield paediatric topics aligned with the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination
  • Apply knowledge in an examination context: Apply clinical and medical sciences knowledge to exam-style questions and scenarios
  • Learn from expert educators: Gain insights from experienced FRACP paediatric clinicians on exam strategy, question interpretation, and commonly tested content
  • Enhance MCQ performance: Develop critical thinking, question analysis, and time management skills through exam-focused learning and MCQ practice
  • Identify and address knowledge gaps: Evaluate personal learning needs and prioritise areas for further revision before the examination
  • Strengthen exam readiness: Increase confidence and preparedness for the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination through intensive, structured revision and practical exam preparation

  • This course is designed for paediatric basic trainees preparing for the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination. If you are unsure whether this course is suitable for you, please contact the Course Coordinator before registering.
  • Completion of the registration form does not guarantee an in-person place. In-person attendance is subject to venue capacity and availability.
  • If you would like to attend in person but your study leave approval is still pending, we recommend applying for the in-person option. You will have the opportunity to change your attendance type or withdraw your application up until the payment due date.
  • Trainees planning to sit the examination after 2027 should contact the Course Coordinator prior to registering.

Attendance allocation and payment:

  • Registrations for the in-person attendance option will close at 6:00pm (NZ Time) on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.
  • Places for in-person attendance are limited. If the number of applications exceeds venue capacity, an allocation process will be undertaken after the closing date.
  • All applicants will be advised of their confirmed attendance type (in-person or online) by Friday, 24 July 2026.
  • Course fees are NOT payable at the time of registration. Payment instructions and final enrolment information will be provided in August 2026 following confirmation of attendance allocations.
  • Participants will have until 4 September 2026 to complete payment, change their attendance type (where applicable), or withdraw their registration.

Registration timeline:

  • Registrations for the in-person attendance option close at 6:00pm (NZ Time) on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.
  • A confirmation email acknowledging receipt of your registration will be sent in a batch after the in-person registration closing date. If you do not receive a receipt confirmation email by Friday, 17 July 2026, please contact the Course Coordinator at fracpadmin@auckland.ac.nz.
  • Online registrations will remain open after this date, subject to availability.
  • Late registrations may be considered on a case-by-case basis; however, access duration and course fees will remain unchanged.
  • New Zealand-based trainees: If your study leave approval is still pending by the in-person registration deadline (15 July) but you wish to attend the course in person, please select the in-person attendance option when completing the registration form and contact the Course Coordinator directly at fracpadmin@auckland.ac.nz.

Refund policy:

Due to the nature of this course, the cancellation and refund policy outlined below differs from the standard University of Auckland Short Course Cancellation and Refund Policy.

To receive a refund, cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to the Course Coordinator.

  • Cancellations made on or before Friday, 4 September 2026 will receive a 100% refund.
  • Cancellations made between 5 September and 22 October 2026 (inclusive) will receive a refund less a NZ$200 administration fee.
  • Cancellations made on or after 23 October 2026 are not eligible for a refund. However, requests to transfer registration to another trainee or defer participation to a future course may be considered at the discretion of the Course Directors.

Refunds will only be issued to the original payer and returned to the account used for the initial payment.

If you require an extension to the payment deadline, please contact the Course Coordinator before 4 September 2026 to discuss available options.

The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) reserves the right to cancel the course if necessary. In the event of course cancellation by FMHS, all course fees will be refunded in full. FMHS is not responsible for any travel, accommodation, or other expenses incurred by participants.

 

Website Access & Extension: 

Access to all online course materials and lecture recordings will be available through to the Divisional Clinical Examination in 2027.

Course access is time-limited and will not be automatically extended if participants change their intended examination date.  However, participants may purchase an extension to their website access for an additional fee if their exam is deferred beyond June 2027.

Registration is processed through the University of Auckland Short Course platform.  While participants may receive automated Canvas Learn login details from the University, all course materials for this programme are hosted exclusively on the FRACP Teaching Website.

Payment for short courses is normally by credit card. If you need to pay by invoice or require assistance, please email shortcourses@auckland.ac.nz. Please note that the University does not issue individual invoices for amounts less than $500 New Zealand dollars.
