Overview

The FRACP Weekly Teaching Programme is a comprehensive, exam-focused course designed to support trainees preparing for the FRACP Part 1 Paediatrics Written Examination in 2027.

The programme provides a structured and guided approach to study, helping trainees maintain a consistent and sustainable pace in the months leading up to the exam.  It is designed to complement clinical training by offering a clear framework of core knowledge required for success in the written examination.

 

Delivered by an experienced multidisciplinary faculty - including specialist clinicians (general, community, and subspecialty) and scientists from Starship Children’s Hospital and other New Zealand hospitals - the programme combines high-quality teaching with integrated exam preparation, including interactive lectures, structured revision, and practice examinations.

 

Participants benefit from a supportive and engaging learning environment, with opportunities to ask questions, clarify concepts, and deepen understanding throughout the course.

 

 

Who should attend?

This short course is designed for basic paediatric trainees in New Zealand and Australia who are preparing for the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination in 2027.

Participants are expected to have foundational knowledge in paediatrics appropriate to their stage of training and to be actively preparing for the written examination. 

 

Short course structure and topics covered

The programme is structured to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to exam preparation, supporting trainees to build and consolidate knowledge across key areas of paediatrics.

Course structure includes:

  • 56 one-hour weekly interactive lectures delivered in real time.
  • Lecture recordings available via a dedicated teaching website, with access extended until the Divisional Clinical Examination in 2027.
  • Six monthly MCQ practice exams (32 questions each), aligned with lecture topics and supported by marking and detailed feedback.
  • Paper 1 and Paper 2 practice exams (50 questions each) in January 2027.
  • Both paper-based and computer-based exam formats.

The programme covers a broad range of core paediatric topics aligned with the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination curriculum, providing a structured framework for revision and exam preparation.

Learning outcomes 

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

Registration and enrolment process: 

To enrol in this study option, participants must first complete the Eligibility & Study Option Registration Form.  

Important information before enrolling:

  • NZ-based trainees should not use this registration platform.  Please contact the Course Coordinator directly for registration.
  • This course is designed for paediatric basic trainees preparing for the FRACP Part 1 Written Examination.  If you are unsure whether this course is suitable for you, please contact the Course Coordinator before enrolling.
  • If you are enrolling for the first time in 2026 and are planning to sit the FRACP Written Exam in 2027, and expect to be eligible by that time, you may proceed directly to payment after completing the registration form.
  • Returning participants (those enrolled in the Weekly Teaching Programme in 2025) will be contacted by the Course Coordinator with a discount code to access the reduced fee.  Please wait for this communication before making payment.
  • Trainees planning to sit the examination after 2027 should contact the Course Coordinator prior to registering.

Completion of the registration form is required to avoid delays in confirming your enrolment.

Course fees (NZD, GST inclusive)

  • Option 1 - First-time enrolment (Weekly Teaching Programme 2026): $2,950
  • Option 2 - Returning participant (2025 cohort) - access until October 2026 exam: $737.50 
  • Option 3 - Returning participant (2025 cohort) - access until February 2027: $1,475 

Package deal (Weekly + Intensive)

A package deal is available for participants enrolling in both the Weekly Teaching Programme and the Intensive Two-Week Course in the same year (10% off each course).

Please note that the full fee for the Weekly Teaching Programme is payable at the time of registration.  The package discount will be applied at the time of payment for the Intensive Two-Week Course.

Information about the Intensive Two-Week Course will be available in June 2026.

Payment and confirmation: 

  • For first-time enrolments in 2026, course fees are payable at the time of registration.  A place in the course is secured once payment has been received.
  • For returning participants or special cases, instructions for payment and final registration will be provided once eligibility has been confirmed.
  • If paying by credit card, registration confirmation and access to the course materials are typically provided within a few days.
  • If paying by invoice, registration confirmation will only be provided once payment has been received.

Registration timeline: 

  • Registrations are accepted until the end of October 2026.
  • Late registrations may be considered on a case-by-case basis; however, course fees and access duration will remain unchanged.

Refund policy: 

To be eligible for a full refund, cancellation requests must be submitted in writing at least 15 days prior to the first day of the course (4 June 2026).  Partial refunds may be provided for cancellation made within 15 days of the course start date, in accordance with the guidelines below.

Due to the nature of this course, please note that this policy differs from the standard University of Auckland Short Course Cancellation and Refund Policy.

  • Cancellations made 15 days or more prior to the course start date will receive a 100% refund.
  • Cancellations made 8-14 days prior to the course start date will receive a 75% refund, minus any applicable card payment fees.
  • Cancellations made less than 8 days prior to the course start date will not be eligible for a refund.
  • No cancellations or refunds will be permitted once the course has commenced.

Refunds will be processed back to the original payment method only.

The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) reserves the right to cancel any programme or course at its discretion and will not be responsible for any associated costs incurred by participants (e.g. travel or accommodation).  In such cases, all course fees will be fully refunded.

 

Website access & extension: 

Access to all online course materials will available through to the Divisional Clinical Examination in 2027.

For returning participants (2025 cohort), access will remain active until the end of your selected exam period (October 2026 or February 2027).

Access is time-limited and will not be automatically extended if your exam plans change. However, you may purchase an extension to your website access for an additional fee if your exam is deferred or rescheduled.
