Short course structure and topics covered:
The course will comprise lectures, manual skills training using organic tissue and surgery simulation in the Surgical Lab.
- First step in becoming a surgical assistant.
- Understand and follow safe and best practice techniques.
The benefits:
Students participate in Nurse Assistants in open surgery will gain hands-on experience as well as the opportunity to trial the latest surgical innovations.
Learning outcomes:
This 1-day course will provide a solid grounding in the principles of assisting in surgery and allow opportunities to develop manual skills.
Who should attend? / any entry requirements?
General surgical and gynaecological theatre nurses must have a minimum of 18 months theatre experience.
The course is limited to 16 participants on a “first come first serve” basis. NZ Trainees have priority.
