This course will focus on the management of a deteriorating patient. This will include sessions on recognizing the deteriorating patient and applying a systematic assessment with clinical interventions. In addition, there will be simulation stations that participants will rotate through, exploring and applying the interventions for managing different patient situations. Within the course there will be sessions on communication and leadership. 

Short course structure and topics covered:  

  1. Identify Early Signs of Clinical Deterioration
  2. Apply structured Assessment Frameworks to Manage the Deteriorating Patient
  3. Interpret and Escalate Appropriately, the Clinical Concerns
  4. Demonstrate Immediate Interventions within Practice Scenarios
  5. Demonstrate Effective Teamwork Principles within Simulated Scenarios
  6. Reflect on Human Factors and Safety following Practice Scenarios
