Short Course- Registered Nurse Prescribing Updates (November)

This one-day online course focusing on general prescribing updates and advanced practice including interpretation of blood results and investigations.  This course will demonstrate the pertinent aspects of prescribing and management of patients for registered nurse prescribers to support professional development in prescribing and discuss recent updates in prescribing practice and considerations for prescribing.

Short course structure and topics covered:  

• Updates and prescribing considerations in:

• Mental health and addictions

• Chronic kidney disease and hypertension

• Obesity and weight management

• Diabetes

• Older persons health and prescribing

• Heart failure

Learning outcomes:  

At the end of the short course, participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate knowledge in prescribing and best practice updates.
• Demonstrate knowledge in considerations in prescribing (prescribing to older people, those with kidney disease, diabetes, heart failure and metabolic disease).
• Demonstrate knowledge in interpretation of blood tests and investigations.
• Demonstrate knowledge in considerations for prescribing for those with common mental health conditions.

Post course reading and information will be provided to participants.

Who should attend? Any entry requirements?  

• Registered nurse prescribers to support their professional development in prescribing and discuss recent updates.
• Students enrolling into this course will have need to have completed their PG Dip in Registered Nurse Prescribing in primary health and speciality teams.
